They had been alone together—inside Maki’s lab. A place of weapons, of danger… yet, somehow, it didn’t feel dangerous at all. There was no threat—no, not when he was near her. It felt safe. Did she feel the same, in his presence? Because it was his wish… his wish for her to feel secure, as if nothing could harm her. Nothing in this killing game, nothing in her past.

As they sat together—him, curiously analyzing a gun… attempting to learn more about her. It wasn’t as if he could shun her past. To accept her, he’d have to accept every part… even the most lethal subjects. But to take it with them—no, they would leave it behind. If Maki tried to bring it, he’d force it away.

Glancing at the object in his hands, Maki showed him the various parts on how it worked—so knowledgeable, skilled in this art of assassination. A frightening thing that wasn’t so frightening at all—not with her.

Her eyes—darker than blood—met with his his… brighter than the milky way in a cloudless sky. “Harumaki.” How could a situation like this produce such feelings… feelings of closeness, of intimacy? A special bond… that’s what it was. Moving in closer, the two of them could practically feel the others breath, respectively… a kiss, yes—close enough for a kiss to transpire—

The door opened. Shuichi was at the doorframe… with an expression as though he realized he walked in at an awkward time.

“… My bad.” Kaito speaks as he leans back, creating distance between the two… as not to make her uncomfortable.

So long as they lived, held onto those feelings, there would be more opportunities. Kaito knew that this had been decided, and he would hang onto that… hang onto it for the both of them.
